Even more remarkably, specific strains identified in athletes can convert lactic acid into usable energy, helping delay muscle fatigue⁵. This may explain why some athletes recover faster between intense efforts.
Research also shows that athletes tend to have a richer and more diverse microbiome than sedentary individuals, which correlates with better endurance performance⁶.
